Legal Aid Flyer

Mission:

HGC is funding to offer to Harvard graduate student populations free legal consultation appointments to address the most common legal issues that students face.

Vision:

Students may need legal advice and consultations on various issues such as tenancy disputes, employment, and contract law. Providing free legal consultations and advice from qualified legal professionals can be an effective way to address these issues and help students reach their goals.

Scope:

1.  Consultation only.  These appointments are for advising students on recommendations, advice, and referrals, and do not go into the stages of representation.  In some cases, students may need more specialized legal assistance than the university's legal aid program can offer. Referral services can connect students to external legal aid organizations or law firms that can provide additional support.
2.  Civil issues only. Criminal issues such as assault, felonies, etc. are not within the scope of this program.
3.  Not for University issues.  Legal services are funded through HGC and are to be for a Harvard graduate student’s personal case. The services are not to aid or support in legal actions brought forth against Harvard University. Any one student will be limited to no more than 2 30-minute sessions per semester.

Process of selecting applicants:

The selection will be based on the issues that the legal aid team has the expertise to provide guidance in. Furthermore, the selection will prioritize issues that the Harvard Law clinics do not provide guidance on.

Process of scheduling meetings:
Meetings with the legal aid team will be held on zoom. The meeting times will be based on whoever from the selected applicants reaches out first as there are a limited number of appointments. The urgency of the issue will be considered when scheduling a meeting time with the student.
